16 May 2009

Brayton Belles U14B 5 v 1 Hornsea Sporting.

The Belles started their last match of the season, looking for their 3rd win in a hectic 5 days, and duly obliged with another fine performance. The game was only ten minutes old when the Belles took the lead through Emily Thomson as she latched onto a through ball down the right and fired home the first goal.Soon after player of week Sophie Hudson, who was in excellent form on the left hand side of midfield, curled a lovely shot into the net, from the edge of the penalty box, which went in off the far post to make it 2-0.The Hornsea team tried hard to get back into the game, but were shut out by a determined Belles defence. Continuing to dominate the Belles were able to add two further goals before half time, firstly through a shot from Kelly Thornton, who scored her third goal of the week, and then Sophie Hudson scored her second of the day to make it 4-0 when the visiting keeper was unable to keep out her speculative shot from distance. In the second half the physical efforts of the last week began to catch up with the girls, and Hornsea came back into the game to score a good consolation goal. The Belles made several changes to liven up the game including playing keeper Katie Parker up front with Hannah Argyle, and it was Hannah who was able to hammer the ball home to make the final score 5-1.All the girls can be proud of their performances this season, which for most of them was their first experience of 11 a-side football, and can look forward with optimism to the next.

14 May 2009

Hessle Rangers U14 1 v 2 Brayton Belles U14B.

The Belles gave what was without a doubt their best team performance of the season, as they toppled the third placed team in the league and became the first team to win on their opponents ground all season.Playing a new formation the tactics seemed to pay off for the girls from the start as they hustled and harried their dangerous opponents, and were able to shut out the most prolific strike force in the league and restrict them largely long range efforts.Up front Katie Todd was unlucky not to give the Belles the lead with a couple of fine efforts, including a brilliant lob over the keeper which due to the hard pitch bounced over the goal. After 25 minutes of a very even game the home team grabbed the lead when a clever lob gave keeper Katie Parker no chance and the half ended 1-0 to the home side.Undeterred the Belles continued to match their opponents and following a free kick Kelly Thornton was able to latch onto a through ball and beat the keeper with a shot low into the bottom corner to equalise. The match was now end to end with both sides playing positive attacking football, and the Belles were rewarded when, following excellent pressure on the home defence from Chloe Parkin, Hannah Argyle pushed forward and put them ahead with 15 minutes to go, with a fine shot following an attack down the right. The home side piled on the pressure in the closing minutes and hearts were in mouths when Katie Parker had to make a double goal line save following a rebound off the post. The whole team finally got their reward, for closing down their opponents and not allowing them time on the ball, as the final whistle went. Player of the match for a faultless performance in defence went to Emma Tune.As a slightly different perspective the referee said it was a fantastic game and the best he had seen all season!

12 May 2009

Springhead FC U14 0 v 2 Brayton Belles U14B

The Belles visited Hull for a Tuesday night game, against a team just one point behind them in the league, and came away with a good win.Playing with confidence and with everyone putting in hard work and effort the chances soon started to come for the Belles, particularly from a series of excellent corners delivered by Kelly Thornton. Codie Heneachon was causing havoc with her pace, and the Springhead goal almost seemed to be leading a charmed life as shots rained in and bounced around the goal. The deadlock was broken after 25 minutes when Kelly Thornton broke through, and although her first shot was well parried by the keeper the ball came out to her feet and she hammered the rebound into the net for the first half to end 1-0. The Belles got a wake-up call as the second half started when their opponents capped a period of pressure with a shot that hit the crossbar. The girls responded well and although they continued to make numerous chances the only addition to the score was following a corner on the right when Sophie Hudson made it 2-0.All the girls played well, but Player of the match for another solid and positive performance was Jessica Senior.

6th May 2009

South Cave U14 6 v 2 Brayton Belles U14B

The conditions played a major part in Wednesday night's visit to South Cave, with the Belles having first half advantage of the howling gale blowing straight down the hard sloping pitch. Unfortunately with the ball continually running away they were unable to convert much of their possession and territory into real chances. The home team were able to play better football against the wind and despite an even first 20 minutes went 2-0 up before Kelly Thornton was able to break through and fire home confidently for the Belles first. The home team scored again just before half time to make the score 3-1 at the break.
In the second half Katie Parker was called upon to react quickly & make several fine saves, but had no chance with the three additional goals scored by their opponents. The girls fought hard and tried to play football, and Codie Heneachon scored a second for the Belles when she showed her pace and lobbed the ball over the keeper.
Once again, not dealing with the bouncing ball and not closing their opponents down quicker significantly contributed to their downfall.
Player of the week, with another consistent and excellent defensive game was Emma Tune.

2nd May 2009.

Brayton Belles U14B 3 v 2 Springhead FC U14

This match was a wonderful advertisement for everything that is good about girls football, with two even sides competing to their best and playing their hearts out.
The Belles started brightly and had their opponents pinned in and around their penalty area for the first 15 minutes but were unable to convert any of their chances. Then as often happens in football, in their first meaningful attack Springhead broke out and scored the first goal from close range giving keeper Katie Parker no chance.
The Belles response was immediate and within a minute, following some good set up work by Danielle Brown, Emily Thomson smartly lobbed the ball over the visiting keeper into the net to equalise.
Now on a roll the Belles scored again only minutes later when Kelly Thornton was able to use her pace to breakthrough the defensive line and score well with a right foot shot to make the score 2-1.
The game had now opened up and the visitors skillful forward line were starting to create chances. After half an hour and shortly after Charlotte Ward had made a last ditch goal line block to deny them a goal, persistence by the Springhead forwards paid off and another good lob beat Katie to level the score 2-2 at half time.
The second half was end to end but whilst both sides were creating chances both goalkeepers were able to deal well with any threats.
With time running out the Belles snatched the winner with only minutes to go when, following a corner, player of the week Codie Heneachon was in the right place at the right time to bundle the ball over the line off her knee.

Hessle Town 1-0 Brayton Belles U12 yellow

The unlucky yellows were on the wrong end of a closely fought game this weekend.
An early goal in the first half proved to be enough to seal victory for Hessle.
The commitment and determination by all the Belles players of R Brown, Hutton, Head, Clay, Collier, Comerford, F Brown, Huggins, Hetherington and Priddy couldn't buy them a goal, as they searched throughout the match for the elusive equaliser.
Hetherington picked up player of the match for a solid display in defence.

Hessle Town v Belles U16 6 - 1

Brayton went to league leaders Hessle Town knowing that Hessle needed a win to finish their season at the top of the league.

The first half got off to a great start with both teams coming close to scoring. Megan Birch for the Belles hit a powerful shot towards the top corner only to see the Hessle keeper pull off a great save. Hessle tested the Belles defence throughout the first half but a solid performance from every defender saw them hold tight. Spurred on by the defensive performance Lucy Parkin picked up the ball at the corner of the Hessle penalty area and hit a superb lob over the keeper to give the Belles a surprise lead. Brayton held on under a barrage of pressure from the league leaders until a few minutes from half time when Hessle finally hit the back of the Belles goal with two goals in quick succession.

The second half produced four more goals for Hessle. But the Belles players can be proud of their performance against, most certainly the strongest side in the East Riding.

25th April 2009

Scarborough Ladies 4-0 Brayton Belles U12 Yellow

The U12 yellows put in a solid performance but were beaten 4-0 by Scarborough this week.
The first half saw Brayton start well with midfielder's F Brown (Player of the week) and Hutton make some promising runs to create chances for Collier up front.
The Belles rotating back three of Hetherington, Head, Comerford and sweeper Clay worked hard and were supported by a superb performance by keeper/captain R Brown who let in only one goal.
The second half saw strikers Collier and Priddy swap boots (literally) and Priddy also put in a strong performance, but every attempt Brayton made to breach the Scarborough goal was either dealt with by the defence, keeper or shot just that bit too wide.
Slight hesitancy resulted in Scarborough getting two more goals half way through the second half and one more with 5 minutes to go.
The Belles continued to battle to the very end but were unable to break the home team down.
It was a good game between two attacking sides who liked to pass the ball.

Hessle Sporting U14 0 – 0 Brayton Belles U14'sA

This was undoubtly the best team performance and possibly the best scoreless draw of the season. Brayton fielded only ten players against a full strength Hessle side but this didn't deter The Belles commitment. Belles keeper Bethany Stephenson and the back four of Amy Wilson, Jade Roche, Melissa Till and Zoe Ibbetson worked hard throughout to keep Brayton in the game as the home sides relentless arial attack was thwarted throughout. At the other end of the pitch Jodie Lund, Jess Bisby, Kate Wileman, Hannah Priddy and striker Ciara McEvoy pressurised the Hessle defence at every opportunity as the game ebbed and flowed from end to end. The final outcome of the game suited The Belles better than Hessle as it looks as if the league title will go right to the wire.

Hessle Town U14 6 v 3 Brayton Belles U14B

The Belles started brightly on a lovely morning and went ahead after only two minutes when Anya Limbert took a through ball from Emma Tune, and hit a spectacular cross-shot into the top corner. Unfortunately the lead did not last long as a Hessle forward hit a similar shot past Katie Parker from 25 yards.
The Belles continued to play some good football and when Anya nipped in front of a static defence she was able to cross for Emily Thomson, who was in the right place at the right time, to score from close range to regain the lead. Once again the home team fought back and, after being gifted an equaliser from hesitancy in the Belles defence, they went on to score a third just before half time following a cross from the right.
In the second half the match continued to flow from end to end, and although the home team scored a fourth goal, the Belles soon scored a third of their own when Kelly Thornton fired home from the edge of the box.
At this point a succession of injuries to several Belles players disrupted their game and, also tiring, they started to give the home team too much time on the ball. The home team then scored two more long range goals to give a slightly flattering final scoreline.
Player of the week went to Charlotte Ward for had an excellent game in defence.

18th APRIL 2009

Brayton Belles u10's 5-2 Scotton Scorchers

The young Belles finished their season off in fine style with an emphatic defeat of Scotton Scorchers with Rebecca Risebrow grabbing a hatrick and Ola Mleczek a brace in a game the girls dominated from start to finish.
The girls took the lead after fine work by Ola and a confident finish by Rebecca, the compliment was returned shortly afterwards with Ola shooting powerfully in to the bottom corner. The Belles never relinquished there hold on the game with Emily Barker and Emily Owen playing well in defence, Francesca Bettison and Hannah Collier controlled the midfield with player of the week Ruby Oates having an outstanding game on the left wing.
The second half continued in the same vein with the Belles scoring two quick goals; one a piece for Rebecca and Ola. Nia Major was having her usual solid game in goal fielding everything confidently. The Belles subs Evie Linton, Emily Hindle and Rachel Keil-Isaac all played their part with Evie making one fine run down the left wing. Evie had a hand in the Belles final goal with a quick throw in releasing Rebecca to complete her hatrick. Two late goals from Scotton couldn't take the shine off a great team performance the girls can be proud of.

BELLES U16 v HULL CITY 1 - 2

Brayton came up against a very physical Hull City side in this very competitive match.

The Belles got an instant wake up call when captain Shanice Lent got flattened within seconds of the kick off. Brayton were determined not to be intimidated and matched City all the way. The first half saw both teams coming close to scoring, However Hull got the first goal in the last minute to go 1 - 0 up.

Brayton push hard in the second half and were finally rewarded when Birch slotted the ball through to the on running Hewson who managed to push the ball past a sprawling Hull keeper. Lucy Parkin and Poppy Brennan (player of the match) had good chances saved during a spell of pressure from the Belles but with 10 minutes to go Hull broke away and netted their second. Brayton tried hard to score a much deserved equaliser but it wasn't to be. Overall a fine display by the Belles.

Belles U12B v Cleeve 11 - 0

Brayton Belles U12 green team had an eggciting time this Easter holiday with two fantastic wins. The second win was against Cleeve at Braytons home ground on 18th April 09, when the team put on a show for the spectators by slotting away 11 convincing goals. Had it not been for the Cleeve goalkeeping shot stopper, the score line could have been greater and Cleeve never really looked like scoring, as the Belles dsiplayed fantastic defensive and attacking efforts all across the pitch.

Goals came from Emily Morton who scored 6, skipper Gemma Robinson 2, Aine Abbott 1, Shannon Yorke 1 and Emily Murphy 1 which was her first goal of the season.

Murphy was awarded player of the match for the great effort and determination she showed on the wing.

Malet Lambert Y.C 10 - 0 Brayton Belles U12 yellow

This week saw the U12 yellows visit a strong Malet side. Brayton were caught sleeping when Malet scored from a quickly taken corner in the opening minute of the match, but this seemed to shake them into action and from them on they fought hard to gain some control. Brayton played some good football, passing and moving the ball between them, but half time saw Malet leading 4-0. Second half saw keeper and player of the week Rhiannon Brown pull off save after save and good defending from the rotating defence of Clay, Head, Hetherington and Huggins saw Brayton competing well despite what the scoreline suggests.
Bromley, Collier, Comerford and Priddy battled for every ball and made several advances towards the Malet goal but their hard work and effort was not enough against the sheer physical size and power of Malet on this occasion.
A period of sustained pressure from the home side culminated in Brayton surrendering more goals.
The whole team worked extremely hard and showed true fighting spirit right through to the final whistle.

Tuesday 14 April

Brayton Belles U14B 2 v 2 South Cave

The Belles were only two minutes from pulling off a win against a team several places above them in the league.

The game, on the big pitch at Brayton College on Tuesday evening, started evenly but gradually the Belles started to create the better chances and after going close on a couple of occasions, it was no surprise when midway through the half Kelly Thornton picked up a pass on the edge of the area and fired home into the bottom corner, to give the Belles a 1-0 lead.

With the home defence well on top and not allowing their opponents to get any sight of goal, and the midfield providing the openings for the forwards the pressure again told when Anya Limbert showed her pace and broke away to make it a 2-0 lead at half-time.

In the second half the visitors gradually started to apply more pressure, and with the Belles allowing their opponents too much time on the ball the visitors scored after a break down the left, to make it 2-1 with 20 minutes to go.

The Belles continued to work hard, with Katie Todd in particular making some fine runs and getting some good crosses in from the right side, but gradually their opponents were spending more time in and around the Belles goalmouth, forcing Katie Parker to make a couple of excellent saves.

With time ticking away however, South Cave snatched an equaliser in a goalmouth scramble following a series of corners to level the score at 2-2.

There were many positives from the game, with some good teamwork and fine individual performances particularly from Charlotte Ward, Sophie Hudson, Emma Tune and player of the week Ashley Rowe.

4th April 2009

Belles U12B v Hornsea Sporting 9 - 0

Brayton Belles U12 Green team hosted Hornsea Sporting in the league. Hornsea rattled the cross bar within the first 5 mins, however it was Belles skipper Gemma Robinson who opened the scoring for Brayton at 10 mins. Robinson promptly scored a second when she headed home a lovely cross from Alisha Clayton. Wingers Emily Morton and Clayton caused Hornsea problems and it wasn’t long before Robinson was on the end of another cross to complete a hat trick for the third time this season. Morton’s relentless running paid dividends for her too, as she fired a shot passed the Hornsea keeper and Robinson grabbed her forth to make the half time score 5 – 0.

Autumn Freeman added the sixth shortly into the 2nd half and Belles defenders Kaitlyn Doncaster and Nicole Husband held firm, with support from keeper Faith O’Donnell Stokes to ensure a clean sheet for the Belles. Shannon Yorke was on the end of a pass from Robinson to grab a 7th, but not content Belles continued to pressure Hornsea with Aine Abbott and Emily Morton scoring a goal apiece to make the final score 9 – 0.

The whole team were congratulated on a brilliant performance and the player of the game was awarded to Gemma Robinson, thanks to referee Frank Holleran.

Hedon Rangers 6 v 3 Brayton Belles U14B.

Playing on a very hard pitch, controlling the ball early and not letting your opponents settle was the order of the day. With the first 20 minutes being fairly even the Belles conceded the first goal when a fierce cross from the right was deflected into the net. Their response was positive and Anya Limbert set up Player of the Week Kelly Thornton who hit a low shot into the bottom corner to equalise. Unfortunately the girls then conceded another goal almost immediately to go 2-1 down, and shortly after that a third as a Hedon forward was quicker to a bouncing ball. The girls fought back again and just before half time Kelly Thornton hit a spectacular 30 yard lob over the keeper to make the score 3-2..
In the second half, the girls conceded 3 more goals, despite some fine saves from Katie Parker, but managed to score a third themselves when Emily Thomson followed in a ball pushed out by the keeper and shot home.

Belles U12A v Costello 4 - 1

With Costello footing the bottom of the U12 Division and Brayton the next team above both teams were committed to make the win and points theirs. Brayton started alert and passing football the ball well. With 3 minutes gone a through ball to Braytons Goirgia Bromley who had the speed to round the player at the edge of the box to strike home in the top corner of the net to put the elles one up. Costello a bit stunned, strengthened up in midfield but 2 minutes later another through ball to Bromley who squared the ball to Rosie Hutton to receive, shape and fire home the Belles second. Costello then started to get back into the game and after 3 good long range attempts on goal finally got a goal back with a fierce strike. The belles defence of Jenny Clay and Chelsea Head were performing well and pressured more to quash Costellos main threat of the powerful long range efforts. Braytons sweeper Sarah Huggins got Brayton back playing football with some lovely through balls to strikers Grace Priddy and Sammy Collier who both had chances. The introduction of Flo Brown continued to apply further pressure and with another Brayton through ball onto Huttons surging run, beat the defender to square it for Priddy to smash home first time.
In the second half in form captain goalkeeper Rhiannon Brown was dealing well with Costello`s long range efforts and with Huggins first rate corners Brayton were searching for further goals but credit to Costello`s goalkeeper who made some fine saves . It wasn`t long before a trade mark Hutton break through and shot on goal secured a fine win for the belles who have deserved a win after some good footballing displays. The whole team were awarded the players of the week.

21st March 2009

Stamford Bridge Scorpions 0-4 Brayton Belles

The Belles carried on the good work of recent weeks with a good all round team performance, the highlight being four goals from player of the week Ola Mleczek.
The Belles took the game to Stamford Bridge straight from the first whistle with Hannah Collier, Francesca Bettison and Rebecca Risebrow playing well in midfield, and Emily Barker and Emily Owen solid in defence with Nia Major confident in goal as normal. It was no suprise when Ola scored her first goal mid way through the first half with a strong shot from the edge of the area. The Belles continued to press for the rest of the half but couldn't add to the scoreline.
The girls kept the monmentum going in the second half and nearly scored straight from the kick off with a rehearsed move. The second goal wasn't long in coming when from a fine corner from Francesca, Ola headed into the roof of the net. Subs Emily Hindle, Evie Linton and Kirsty Voss contributed well to the second half performance and two further goals from close range for Ola reflected the pressure the girls had in the second half, a fine all round team performance the young Belles can be proud of.

Brayton Belles U14B 1 v 6 Hessle Rangers.

The Belles started in positive manner and matched their higher placed opponents for long periods of the game. Hessle scored first after 15 minutes when Katie Parker, who made several fine saves, was given no chance with a shot into the corner.
The Belles kept pushing forward and were rewarded when Kelly Thornton latched onto a through ball and finished calmly with a good low shot to make the score 1-1 at half time. The second half started evenly but as the Belles started to tire, the visitors strong passing game was starting to tell and with some good finishing they were able to add 5 more goals without reply.
Despite the scoreline there were several good performances, but none more so than from player of the week Jessica Senior.

Belles U12B v Pinefleet
Brayton Belles U12 green team faced their cup draw against the team that defeated them last week in the league, Pinefleet Wolfreton. Despite last weeks defeat, the Belles started positively against a strong Pinefleet side and played really well with some great attacking down the wings from Alisha Clayton, Emily Morton and Shannon Yorke and the centre of the park Aine Abbott. All were unlucky not to score, when they struck the ball superbly on many occassions at the Pinefleet goal, only to be saved by a big defiant Pinefleet keeper. The rest of the Belles team contributed well in defence, attack and midfield, but against the run of the game Pinefleet managed to sneak in a goal just before half time.

The Belles heads went down temporarily but the young players knew that going into the second half they stood a chance of equalising with all the possession they had in the first half, so they marched onto the pitch looking for the equaliser. However in pursuit of a goal, disaster struck and the first 3 minutes saw Pinefleet managing to score 3 quick goals one after the other. The Belles regained composure and this only seemed to make them more determined to come back. So not only did the Belles have much of the possesion, they were by far the better footballing team, showing great ball skills and determination. The defence (Nicole Husband, Kaitlyn Doncaster, Rachael Grundy, Autumn Freeman and Faith O'Donnell Stokes) worked hard to stamp out further breaches on the Belles goal when the ball came into the Belles half, but despite all the pressure from the Belles midfield and attack, the Pinefleet keeper seemed unbeatable. So the Belles stayed resilient attacking the Pinefleet keeper and with two minutes to go Captain Gemma Robinson managed to get the Belles a late consolation goal. The whole team soldiered on to try and get more goals, but it was too late and the final whistle was blown. Player of the match was awarded to Kaitlyn Doncaster for her superb attempts in defence and her strong throw ins. The result ended up at Pinefleet 4-1 Belles.

Flamborough 3-1 Brayton Belles U12 yellow

Despite playing the better football and having their share of chances throughout the game, Brayton found Lady Luck wasn't on their side and it was Flamborough who would progress to the semi-final of the East Riding League plate.
The Belles started the game the brighter team and gave Flamborough a display in passing and movement however Flamborough's defence stood it's ground and blocked the attacks.
Throughout the game the Belles continued to apply pressure and were finally rewarded in the last six minutes with a great goal by Hutton.
Flo Brown was named player of the match for an outstanding display in midfield which had her covering every blade of the grass.
Credit goes to all the team, R Brown, Head, Clay, Hetherington, Bromley, Hutton, Priddy, F Brown and Comerford for giving 100% effort and for never giving up. Great team work girls.

14th March 2009

Brayton Belles U10's 1-2 York R.I. U10's

Up against the league leaders who have only lost once all season the performance in the first half was first class with the Belles totally dominant.
Player of the week Francesca Bettison controlled the midfield and with Emily Barker and Emily Owen snuffed out the threat of the York attack.
With Ruby Oates, Rebecca Risebrow and Ola Mleczek working well together in attack the only surprise was it took the girls 9 minutes to get the first goal, tapped in by Rebecca after good work by Ola. The girls pressed forward for the rest of the half with subs Hannah Collier and Rachel Keil Isaac showing up well but the second goal would not come.
York R.I. came out strongly in the second half and soon equalized, and it was no surprise when they took the lead shortly afterwards, the Belles were glad of Nia Majors performance in goal at this stage. But Brayton got themselves back in to the match and started taking the game to York again, with a succession of corners near the end it seemed certain they would score again but it wasn't to be.

Pinefleet Wolfreton U12’s 4 v 0 Brayton Belles U12 Green

Brayton Belles U12 B team's unbeaten record this calendar year, came to an abrupt end when they played Pinefleet Wolfreton away.

The Belles were slow to start and were 2 nil down within minutes of the kick off, however The Belles settled into the game and started to show some promise, but they were lucky as on song Belles keeper Faith O'Donnell Stokes saved numerous blistering shots to ensure it was only 2 nil at half time. The Belles played better in the second half and battled to score a goal, but despite all the odds Pinefleet managed to score an additional two goals to make sure they won. Player of the match was O'Donnell Stokes for her brave and positive performance in goal.

Brayton Belles U12 yellow 0-1 Hessle Town U12’s

Brayton faced pressure from a physically stronger Hessle team from the start, but they came on with determination and a belief in themselves. The game kicked off with both teams showing some fine displays of skill.
Hutton, Collier and Comerford chased everything and challenged the Hessle defence on many occasions, whilst the defence of Head and Clay and sweeper Hetherington took care of most of the advances Hessle made towards the Belles goal. What did get past was quickly dealt with by Captain/keeper Rhiannon Brown.
Subs Orme and Huggins showed great diversity by playing in a number of positions and helped pile on the pressure.

The second half saw much the same with both teams fighting hard but fair and showing each other deserved respect. In the end it was Hessle who secured the elusive goal.
All in all it was a great game of football played by two teams in the right manner. Well done to everyone.

Brayton Belles U14A 6 – 1 Flamborough Hawks U14

Two goals by Kate Wileman and Jodie Lund and one each by Jess Bisby and Ciara Mcevoy returned The Belles to winning ways after last week’s minor set back. With Brayton fielding only ten players throughout the match they kept up the pressure on the visitors right to the final whistle. The Belles made their intensions clear from the kick off making their opponents battle for every ball, Brayton took advantage of the blustery conditions and were four up by half time. In the second half Flamborough began to apply the pressure and scored early on but The Belles resilience proved too much rattling in a further two goals to dent any hopes of a fight back. An all-round solid performance ensured a well earned win which keeps the pressure on their rivals.

Brayton Belles U14B 2 v 3 Scarborough Ladies U14’s

The Belles almost snatched an unlikely draw, against the only unbeaten team in the U14 league, and to whom they had lost 9-0 in the cup a week earlier.

The girls got off to the worst possible start by conceding a goal from a long throw within the first two minutes of the game. They then found themselves 2-0 down after only 15 minutes, despite a series of fine saves from Player of the Week Katie Parker.

Gradually the girls started to compete all round the pitch and to play with a renewed confidence and a belief that they could get back into the game. They were rewarded before half time when Katie Todd was played through the middle and finished off a fine run, with a shot into the bottom corner.

The second half started with some exciting end to end play. Midway through the second half the Belles equalised when, following an attack down the right, a Scarborough defender could only slice the cross past her own keeper and into the net for an own goal.
With time running out the girls conceded a scrappy winner, but they can all be proud of their fantastic efforts.

MALET LAMBERT U16 1 - 1 BRAYTON BELLES U16 1 - 1

Both teams got off to a slow start in this match. It took a thunderous shot, which left the Brayton keeper Stephenson with no chance, to wake everyone up. The rest of the first half saw the Belles push for an equaliser. Hewson and Birch combined well during several attacks, which eventually led to a great pass through to Lucy Parkin, who topped the earlier shot from Malet smashing the back of their net. Half time 1 - 1

Brayton controlled the second half with some fantastic passing and movement from Richardson, Brennan and player of the match Lotti Johnson. On rare occasions when Malet attacked the Belles defence stood firm. With only seconds to go Parkin struck another fine shot which beat the diving keeper, only to be denied by the post. A good team performance, especially in the second half which should have resulted in a Brayton win.

Brayton Belles Open Age 6 – 0 Ossett Town

The OA Brayton Belles team put last weeks disappointment behind them to come out on top form in their last league game of the season.

Belles top scorer Emma Knowles scored 6 superb goals to make sure The Belles are guaranteed runners up slot in the West Riding Div 1 in their last game of the season, resulting in promotion for the Belles for the second season running. The Belles played really well as a team and thoroughly deserved the win, well done to all the team for their contribution this season and player of the match went to Emma Knowles for her evident effort and determination to win this game. The Belles now face either Bradford Park Avenue or Morley Spurs in the West Riding Cup semi final next weekend.

7th March 2009

Brayton Belles U10 1 – 2 Scotton Scorchers U10

One of the most impressive performances of the season unfortunately saw the young Belles knocked out of the cup.

The game flowed from end to end with the midfield trio of Francesca Bettison, Ruby Oats and Hannah Collier dominating, it was a surprise that goal scorer Ola Mleclek didn't manage to bag a few more. The back pairing of captain Emily Barker and Rachel Keil-Isacc together with keeper Nia Major held strong at the back but just couldn't keep Scotton out. Evie Linton and Emily Hindle both contributed well after coming on as subs.

Brayton Belles U12 Green 5 – 4 Malet Lambert Belles U10

The Belles quick tempo from the kick off resulted in two early goals being scored by Autumn Freeman and Alisha Clayton. Malet Lambert however got back into the game to make the scores level 2 – 2 at half time.

The Belles started the second half determined to win and Freeman scored her second of the game. Malet Lambert equalised and then went ahead for the first time. The Belles continued to play as a team with Rachael Grundy and Nicole Husband controlling the defence, captain Gemma Robinson playing as sweeper and Emily’s Morton and Murphy helping to gain possession. Robinson threaded through a ball to Kaitlyn Doncaster who scored her first goal of the season to equal up the scores at 4 – 4.

Laura Erskine debutant for the Belles was unlucky not to convert a beautiful pass from Clayton but Lambert made a quick break but Belles keeper Faith O’Donnel-Stokes made a great stop as Lambert attempted to snatch the winner. The Belles eventually came out on top with Morton blasting home, to ensure the Belles were victorious.
Well done to the whole team. Everyone put in 100% effort.Players of the match went to Freeman, Morton and Clayton.

Brayton Belles U12 yellow 1 - 8 Scarborough Ladies U12

Brayton got off to a shaky start and found themselves 2 - 0 down within 5 mins. They cranked it up however and started to match their counterparts resulting in Brayton’s goal scored by Rosie Hutton. Both teams caused problems for the oppositions defence but it was Scarborough who secured two more goals before halftime.

The second half saw the Belles continue to apply pressure but moments of self doubt and ball watching allowed Scarborough to add to their tally.
The final score of 8-1 was flattering but the victory deserved.
Sarah Huggins was named player of the week for her gutsy performance.

AFC Tickton U16 1 – 6 Brayton Belles U16

Brayton started the game in a determined mood and when Lotti Johnson slotted home the first goal after the Tickton keeper failed to clear they never looked back.

Player of the week Laura Richardson was in fine form and bagged a hatrick, the 3rd been the pick of the bunch when she rounded off a great run with a unstoppable right foot shot from just outside the area.

Megan Birch ran the midfield with a tireless display alongside Hewson,Merry and Johnson.

Kate Merry got the finest of touches from a corner helped on by Poppy Brennan to make the score 5 – 0. Despite Tickton pulling a goal back Brayton pushed on and after a goal mouth scramble Tickton scored an OG making the score line 6 - 1.

28th FEBRUARY 2009

Poppleton U10’s 1-1 Brayton Belles U10's

The Belles reinforced their reputation as the leagues draw specialists with another entertaining hard fought draw away at Poppleton.

The Belles had the better of the first half but couldn't find a finish to their fine approach play; the Belles defence of goalkeeper Nia Major with Emily Barker and Rachel Keil Isaac did well to control the threat of the Poppleton attack.

In the second half Poppleton came more into the game and Francesca Bettison had to work hard in midfield to quell the increased threat from Poppleton.

Midway through the second half Poppleton scored to take the lead, but the Belles heads never dropped and gained a deserved equalizer through Rebecca Risebrow after good work from Ruby Oates. The girls kept pressing and when Ola Mleclak had a fine shot from distance they looked to have taken the lead, only for the Poppleton keeper to pull off one of the saves of the season. The game was then end to end to the finish with great credit to both teams for such an entertaining game.

Springhead U12’s 5 - 1 Brayton Belles Under 12’s (Yellow)

In the last encounter between these teams it was a 1-1 draw, which made it all the more disappointing for The Belles to find themselves 0-4 down after 15 minutes with what can only be described as group hesitancy by The Belles team. After 20 minutes The Belles team finally woke up with the mid-field of Cormerford, Brown and Bromley starting to create chances for player of the week Priddy who’s attacking movement and passing started to apply pressure on the Springhead goal. There was nothing goalie Rhiannon Brown could do about Springhead’s fifth goal which was perfectly lobbed in to the top corner just before the half time whistle.

The second half saw the fighting spirit of the Belles team return with defenders Clay and Huggins confidently dealing with the Springhead’s attackers. Sweeper Hetherington’s distribution play paid off with a through ball for Striker Collier to latch onto and strike home The Belles only goal. Springhead never looked like scoring in the second half and if the Belles had entered the game with the fighting spirit seen in this half the score line would have told a different story.

Driffield Wildcats U12’s 1 – 3 Brayton Belles U12 Green

Brayton Bells U12 Green team booked themselves a place in the next round of the East Riding plate with a convincing victory away to Driffield Wildcats.

The Belles took command from the start and were unlucky not to score in the first 20 mins. Driffield however broke away to score. The Belles kept their heads and when Emily Morton sent Autumn Freeman through, the Belles got their equaliser, Freeman scoring her first goal of the season.

The Belles responded positively going into the second half, debutant Alisha Clayton created some early opportunities from the left wing and then stepped up and slotted home a penalty, to get her first goal of the season. The Belles played their socks off, with the strikers and midfield working well together, it was not long before Clayton scored her second to give the Belles the cushion they deserved. The Belles defence of Kaitlyn Doncaster and Nicole Husband held strong when the Wildcats managed to get the ball but the Belles goal was never really threatened.

Players of the match were awarded to Doncaster, Husband, Freeman and Clayton for their super efforts but the whole team were congratulated again for a great team performance.

Pinefleet U14 7 - 3 Brayton Belles U14B

The Belles visited league leaders Pinefleet and, despite missing key players in defence, still managed to give them a fright.

The home team set off at a pace and their star striker had scored a hat-trick within the first 15 minutes. The girls fought hard but still found themselves 5 -0 down with half time approaching.
Then, player of the week, Kelly Thornton scored two quick goals using her pace to burst through and finish in similar fashion with shots into the bottom corner as the first half ended 5-2.

This success clearly lifted the Belles and, with the second half only minutes old, Kelly completed her hat-trick to make the score 5-3. With the girls now pushing forward to try and gain an unlikely draw, it became a much more even game. Unfortunately The Belles could not convert any more of their chances and the home team took advantage to snatch a couple more goals.
Zoe Ribchester gave her all and came off battered and bruised, with Katie Parker having her usual fine game and Emily Thomson also doing particularly well.
This was an excellent performance from the whole team.

Leconfield U14 1 - 4 Brayton Belles U14 A

An unfornuate own goal by the home side plus goals by Evie Smythe, Kate Wileman and Zoe Ibertson ensured Brayton progressed to the next round of the East Riding girls cup. Despite the home side starting the game with ten players and ending it through injury with only nine players. The Belles where made to work hard for their win but despite this Brayton rode their luck to secure their place in the next round. The Belles will encounter tougher opposition as the season progresses, but for now will celebrate their passage into the next round.

Brayton Belles U16 0 - 4 AFC Preston U16

Brayton got off to a flying start and completely dominated the first half. Richardson, Johnson and Hewson all tested the Preston keeper, however against the run of play Preston scored a soft goal during one of their few attacks.
The second half was a different story. The Belles struggled to get a grip and soon Preston started to boss the midfield. Brayton’s defence of Lent, Dawson, Stainthorpe and Birch held out well until a long range shot beat the diving Belles keeper, Huggins. Brayton's attacking line up failed to make head way and two late goals from Preston summed up the Belles lack lustre second half performance. Player of the match went to a hard working Katie Merry.

Brayton Belles Open Age 7 – 0 Castleford White Rose

With just two league games left for this season the Brayton Belles Open Age team remained on top of the West Riding Division 1, with a victory at home. The Belles started really well and opened up the scoring within minutes when Jenna Rogers successfully converted a corner. Rogers quickly followed that by blasting home an unstoppable shot, which carried the outstretched Castleford keeper into her own goal. Castleford tried really hard to up their game but Brayton were on top and when Emma Knowles was brought down in the Castleford area, she successfully converted the subsequent penalty. Knowles then grabbed a second when she followed up on a ball that the keeper dropped to ensure the score at half time was 4 -0.

The Belles continued the second half with Captain Nikki Copeland leading by example controlling the game and Rogers completed her hat-trick. Shortly after the half started Meganne Summers passed a lovely ball to Chloe Precious who rounded the keeper to net the Sixth for the Belles. With The Belles firmly on top they finished the game with a fantastic cross from Jess Dunn to Leigh Ball, Ball who hammered home the seventh goa.

Player of the match was awarded to Jenna Rogers for her effort and commitment in the game.

14th February 2009

Brayton Belles U14’s A 3 – 3 Hessle Sporting A

Goals by Zoe Ibbetson, Jess Bisby and a dramatic late equaliser from Haylem Tang proved how strong and resilient this side are. Fielding a depleted team that took their season so far to another level.

Hessle laid down their intensions when on ten minutes their talented striker scored with a thunderous strike. The Belles battled hard in search for an equaliser but the visitors were proving to be a tough nut to crack.

The Belles finally unlocked the Hessle defence when stand in striker Ibbetson struck home from close range to draw level. Hessle once again regained the lead midway through the second half then up popped Bisby to bring the scores level once more. The visitors increased their lead once again with fifteen minutes to go and Hessle turned up the heat on and struck the crossbar twice in a five minute period. Brayton’s self belief finally paid off however when everybody apart from The Belles keeper lay siege on the Hessle goal mouth when Jodie Lund lofted in a superb corner which rebounded off a Hessle defender only for Tang to drive home a deserved equaliser.

Rebulica International 2 – 4 Brayton Belles Open Age

The Belles opened up the scoring with Jess Dunn scoring after 23 mins and had much of the possession throughout the first half, with Dunn causing problems on the wing. Despite having much of the possession when Republica fired a warning shot, which was saved by on form goalie Danielle Thompson. The Belles pressed on looking for the second goal to settle the team but were unfortunate to not convert their chances into goals and before half time Republica equalised after a goal mouth scramble.

The Belles continued to apply pressure with lots of opportunities to score, but Republica took the lead scoring their second. The Belles attacked Republica and one of the attacks lead to a free kick being awarded. Captain Nikki Copeland positively stepped up as usual to take the free kick, which was floated into the goal area and was nearly converted into a goal by Tara Newall but it was Meganne Summers who managed to score the equaliser. With renewed confidence the Belles came alive and within minutes Summers fired an absolutely fantastic shot to make the score 2 – 3. The Belles were well on top in defence and midfield, resulting in much of the remainder of the action being around Republica's goal area. Emma Knowles The Belles striker and her attacking team mates created some lovely opportunities, but frustratingly Knowles did not look like she was going to score. However with minutes left to goal her efforts were rewarded by her scoring the final goal of the match. Player of the match was awarded to Megan Summers.

31st January 2009

Belles U12B 7 - 1 Horsea

Brayton Belles U12 green team travelled to a cold blustery Hornsea on the 31st Jan. The Belles had a fantastic start with Emily Morton opening up the scoring once again and with continued passing between Morton, Gemma Robinson, Aine Abbott and Shannon Yorke the Hornsea goal area was kept busy, resulting in Morton securing her second hat trick of the season. Not happy to settle the Belles kept up the pressure and Robinson made a cross which was goal bound and Yorke made sure to convert this into a goal by helping it over the line, within minutes however Robinson did slot home the fifth goal for the Belles just before half time.

Hornsea never looked like being a threat as the Belles pinned Hornsea in their own half but a quick break saw them sneak a lucky goal. But Belles seemed to come back even livelier with wingers Morton, Emily Murphy and Yorke, feeding balls in to striker Robinson and central midfielders Aine Abbott and Autumn Freeman to keep the shots at Hornsea flowing. The Hornsea keeper was kept extremely busy and managed to save many a chance, but with competitive Robinson wanting to also score her second hattrick of the season there was no hope for the Hornsea keeper and with two lovely shots on target Robinson made sure she achieved her aim. The Belles defence held strong with Rachael Grundy, Kaitlyn Doncaster, Nicole Husband and keeper Faith O'Donnel-Stokes defying any further Hornsea attacks to ensure no more goals were conceded. The whole team were awarded players of the match for their brilliant combined effort

Brayton Belles U14B 1 v 2 Driffield U14.

The Belles entertained Driffield at Hensall, on a beautiful winters day, and were soon into their stride, playing with a lot of effort and enthusiasm. The sides were well matched and the game was end to end with plenty of chances being created. The visiting keeper had more to do and saved well on a couple of occasions from the Belles forwards.
Midway through the first half the visitors played a good ball in behind the Belles defence & although keeper Katie Parker got a hand to it, she could not stop a well struck cross shot from entering the net, for the only goal of the half.
The Belles picked up their game at the start of the second half with both Katie Todd and Emily Thomson making some fine forward runs to go close, and with Ellie Naylor providing solid support at the back. Driffield defended well but with the Belles camped in the Driffield goalmouth for long periods, the pressure finally told when Chloe Parkin curled home a good shot from 12 yards into the bottom left hand corner to equalise.
Playing positively and looking to move on and win the game, the Belles found themselves behind again within minutes as a break on the left saw a good finish to make the score 2 - 1 to Driffield.
With the visiting goal under siege, the Driffield keeper added to a series of good saves, with one from close range to deny Anya Limbert and one spectacular save from a fierce cross shot from new signing Kelly Thornton.
The whole Belles team never stopped trying, but despite several good performances, particularly from player of the week Zoe Ribchester, they could not convert their chances into an equaliser.

24th January 2009

Brayton Belles Open Age 7 – 0 Hemsworth

For the second year running Brayton Belles open age team booked themselves a place in the semi finals of the West Riding League cup, after an impressive win against Hemsworth on 25th Jan 09.

Nikki Copeland, The Belles captain lead by example as usual and was the creator of the first goal, when she struck a blistering shot , which hit the bar and was helped in by Tara Newell. The Belles passed the ball confidently and Newell added a 2nd by heading in a cross to make the score 2 – 0 at half time.

A confident start in the second half led to Newell securing her hat trick shortly after the kick off. The team worked hard all over the pitch and played some lovely football, passing the ball well. Winger Jess Dunn used her pace and created a lovely opportunity to add to the goal tally, when she fired a shot on goal which came off the keeper to make it 4 for the Belles.

The misery continued for Hemsworth as Newell and Dunn both scored a further goal apiece and the final goal for the Belles came from one of the Hemsworth defenders, resulting in the final score being Brayton Belles 7 – 0 Hemsworth.

The Belles were congratulated on their team performance and the player of the match was awarded to Tara Newell.

Stamford Bridge 4-1 Brayton Belles

The final score line doesn't tell the story of a highly entertaining and closely fought game with two goals in the last minute giving a faltering look to the final score.
The Belles kicked off in arctic conditions and were caught cold by a goal in the first minute, but from that point on the Belles pounded the Stamford Bridge defence playing their best football of the season with some great passing movements, only bad luck stopped the Belles from equalizing, player of the week Rebecca Risebrow was particularly unlucky when her shot smacked against the post.
The second half was end to end with the Brayton defence of Emily Barker and Rachel Keil-Isaac standing firm and keeper Nia Major drawing praise from the Stamford Bridge coaches for some fine saves.
When Stamford Bridge went two up midway through the second half the game looked over but Brayton carried on battling and Ruby Oates capped a great debut for the club with a goal.
The Belles pushed for the equalizing goal with Evie Linton, Francesca Bettison, Emily Owen and Hannah Collier working tirelessly in midfield but the goal wouldn't come and the girls were caught twice in the last minute as they pushed to get back in the game.
Overall the girls can be proud of great team performance.

Belles U12B v Driffield 2 - 2

Brayton Belles U12 green team played Driffield Wildcats on 24th Jan 09 at home. The Belles had a smaller squad of players in this home league game on a cold frosty morning.

The Belles started off nervously as Driffield quickly took charge of the game slotting home their first goal within the first ten minutes. The Driffield attackers were pushing the Belles deep into the Belles half and with a number of 3 v 2 attacks by the Wildcats, Driffield managed to slot home a further goal before half time.

The Belles came back with a lively performance in the second half playing as a team and Emily Morton gave the Belles a ray of hope by trickling in a goal. This seemed to give the Belles the confidence they needed and with some brilliant midfield play between Morton, Gemma Robinson, Aine Abbott and Nicole Husband the Belles piled the pressure on the Wildcats, with Morton scoring a second to level the teams. Some fantastic attacking on the wings and in the centre of the field saw Brayton have more than a handful of opportunities to score a winner, but lady luck was on the side of the Wildcats and they somehow managed to hold the Belles off. The few chances that the Wildcats had in the 2nd half were quickly stamped out by defenders Richael Grundy and Kaitlyn Doncaster, with Faith O'Donnell-Stokes saving some good attempts on goal.

Well done again to the Belles for their resilience and player of the match was Nicole Husband for her courageous second half performance on left wing.

17th January 2009

AFC Tickton 1 v 0 Brayton Belles U14B

The Belles start their 2009 matches with a trip to Beverley, but were missing both their regular central defenders who, like many others over the Xmas & new year period, had succumbed to sickness.
Danielle Brown stepped in to captain the side for the first time and urged the team forward from the start.
The Belles started playing with plenty of enthusiasm and effort and were soon camped in their opponents half for long periods and appeared well in control of the game, although they were creating very few clear cut chances. The new central pairing of Zoe Ribchester and Abbi Gaskell were playing very well together and with the home team limited to attacking on the break, it was against the run of play when, just before the end of the first half, the home team broke quickly and scored a good goal.
The second half was almost an action replay of the first with player of the week Katie Todd, creating havoc with her runs down the right side.
The longer the game went on it was becoming one of those games where you just knew that the Belles were not going to score, as the home keeper dealt with everything thrown at her. This was borne out when midway through the second half when Anya Limbert showed her usual pace and broke forward to hit one of the hardest and accurate goal bound shots she has ever hit, but with the crowd expecting the net to bulge with the equaliser the home keeper pulled of yet another fine save.
Pushing forward left the Belles exposed to the break and only a couple of excellent saves from Katie Parker stopped Tickton adding to their score.
The only thing missing for the Belles was the quality of the final ball, which was a shame as a lot of good effort and approach play went unrewarded.

Belles U12 Green v Cottingham 7 - 3

Brayton Belles U12 Green team travelled to Cottingham Rangers. Belles dominated from kick off with Emily Morton scoring twice and Gemma Robinson within the first ten minutes. Belles passed the ball well across the entire team and hungry for goals Morton completed her hat trick, with Robinson adding to the Belles goal tally resulting in the half time score 1 – 5.

Cottingham settled down in the second half creating opportunities and managed to score a 2nd goal. However this notoriously resilient Belles side held a strong defence and the midfielders worked hard to create more opportunities releasing the forwards, resulting in a further Belles goal from Robinson who completed her first hat trick. To put the icing on the cake a brilliant piece of individual play from Shannon Yorke, saw her dribbling from the half way into the goal area and banged an amazing 7th goal into the back of the Cottingham net, leaving the final score 3 – 7 to the Belles. The coach commented on this being the best team performance experienced this season, good linking up between all the team, selfless passing and great defending were contributing factors to the end result. Players of the match were Emily Morton and Rachael Grundy.

BELLES U16s CRASH OUT OF CUP

Brayton Belles U16s went down 4 - 1 away to Malet Lambert Belles in the East Riding league cup.

Brayton Went into this fixture has favourites and started very brightly. The Belles passed the ball well creating several chances early on. However it was Malet who broke the deadlock on 20 minutes with a quick counter attack which left Braytons defenders routed to the spot. A second came shortly after when Brayton failed to clear a corner. Things went from bad to worse when Malet hit a third just before half time when again Brayton were caught with a quick counter attack.

The second half started much the same and Malet soon went 4 - 0 up. Brayton eventually recovered and played most of the second half on the attack, peppering the Malet goal. Hewson, Parkin, Dawson and Johnson all came close to scoring but to no avail. It was Midfielder Laura Richardson who eventually showed the way with a thunderous free kick which powered into the top left hand corner. A sorry day for the Belles but a valuable lesson learnt.

Brayton Belles U12 Yellow 0 - 8 Cottingham Rangers U12A

A tough start to the New Year saw the U12s side play an unbeaten Cottingham team.
Brayton looked rusty after seven weeks without a competitive match and they made a slow start allowing Cottingham to score three goals within the first ten minutes. However the Belles then woke up and played some good football testing the defence and keeper on several occasions.
The second half saw the Belles continue to battle with player of the match Chelsea Head-Ellis working tirelessly in defence alongside Jenny Clay and keeper Rhiannon Brown.
Cottingham took advantage of a tiring Brayton team and the result was a final scoreline of 8-0.
Every member of the team including Rosie Hutton, Grace Priddy, Imogen Hetherington, Sarah Huggins, Ellie Comerford, Flo Brown and Annabelle Orme showed true determination and their attitude was first class.

Heyside v Brayton 0 - 1

The Belles travelled to a windswept Heyside in Lancs. Danni Thompson saved a fine penalty attempt within the first ten minutes to keep the scores level at nil all. The Belles dominated the first half and were rewarded when Captain Nikki Copeland floated a ball forward and it was finished neatly by Meganne Summers who cleverly lobbed the ball over the keeper to give Belles the lead. The second half saw Heyside play some skillfull football but to no avail and the Belles triumphed. The final score was Heyside 0-1 Brayton Belles the players of the match were Leah Rogers and Danni Thompson.

20th December 2008

Driffield U14 1 v 3 Brayton Belles U14B

Brayton travelled to Driffield, with the prize being a place in the last 8 of the combined U14 divisional league cup. However illness and unavailability meant that our normally large squad was reduced to 12.
Central defender Emma Tune captained the side for the first time and was faultless in reading the game throughout as the Belles started positively and were soon on top. The central midfield of Abbi Gaskell and Hannah Argyle quickly started to create chances for the forwards to pepper the home goal with shots, and Katie Todd and Chloe Parkin, who were working well together, and Anya Limbert all came close to scoring.
The home side was restricted to breakaways through some excellent defensive work from Jessica Senior, Danielle Brown and Zoe Ribchester, and with the home keeper making a series of good saves the first half ended goalless.
The second half was not very old when Emily Thomson, making one of many fine runs down the right, crossed for Anya Limbert to flick the ball into the net past the home keeper and score from close range.
This seemed to spur the home team, who drew level within minutes when a cross following a corner on the right was fired home giving keeper Katie Parker, who had her usual commanding game, no chance to save.
Midway through the half, with the Belles starting to control the game again, Beatrix Brown, who was challenging and chasing all over the field, released Emily Thomson on the right to score with a strong cross shot.
The home team battled and never gave up, throwing everyone forward in an attempt to equalise but the game was settled when Anya Limbert showed her pace and left the home defence standing as she burst through from the half way line and finished with an unstoppable shot past the keeper into the bottom corner.
Beatrix Brown was awarded player of the week for her enthusiastic and non stop display which could have netted a couple of goals but for fine saves from the home keeper.
This was an excellent all round team performance from the girls to sign off for 2008, and to look forward positively to the challenges of the new year.
Well done everyone.

Brayton Belles U12 green team arrived to the sound of Christmas music playing at home, versus the top of the division South Cave on 20th Dec 08.

The Belles got off to a great start in the first ten minutes keeping possession of the ball and defending well against their opponents, who towered over the smaller Belles. However the game turned when one of the Belles players was injured by a ball in the face, which lead to a quick substitution and the Belles seemed to quickly lose their shape.

The South Cave attack and midfield were extremely physical, but they also passed well between them taking advantage of the Brayton defence and this lead to South Cave scoring 4 goals in quick succession. Despite this the Belles kept their heads up and played with their trade mark 100% determination even when South Cave seemed to play even harder, South Cave continued to force the Belles back in to their own half and slotted away another two goals before half time.

Belles started positively in the second half defending better, they had more success in midfield and on the wings but were unfortunate to not take full advantage of their attacking potential when they had opportunity to do so. The Belles came close to scoring and definitely had more chances but to no avail instead South Cave finished off the second half with a further two goals. The final score was 0-8. The players of the match were defenders Kaitlyn Doncaster and Nicole Husband.

The coach praised the Belles players after the game for keeping their courage to carry on battling against a stronger older team and congratulated them on their performance this year, for a first season together the team are in fifth place in the league and have lots more to play for. Well done Belles, Merry Xmas and looking forward to a successful 2009.

13th December 2008

BRAYTON BELLES U16 v Malot Lambert YC 1 - 3

This turned out to be a fantastic match in extreme weather conditions. With the Belles matching high flying Malot in all areas throughout the match.

Brayton were up against the wind, driving rain and Lamberts quick attackers in the first half. But stood firm with some of the best defending this season. Stainthorpe, Dawson, Richardson and Lent all produced quality performances and keeper Stephenson tidied up any loose balls to keep the score at 0 - 0 at half time.

In the second half it was the Belles turn to take advantage of the weather, testing the Malot defence with some quick passing from Birch, Johnson and Merry. Hewson and Parkin came close to giving the Belles the lead. However Malot counter attacked and scored against the run of play. This only spurred Brayton on and soon Parking hit the back of the net after a fine through ball from Brennan to make it 1 - 1. Although Brayton could have gone on to win the game it was Malots quick counter attacks that paid dividend giving them a 3 - 1 victory. This was one of the Belles best team performances of the season - well done.

Belles U12 Green v Hunmanby (cup)

Brayton Belles U12 green team played a division higher Hunmanby in a reverse cup game fixture on 13th December 08.

The Hunmanby team contained some larger older girls who quickly gained an advantage by scoring within the first ten minutes against their Smaller younger Brayton Belles opponents. Brayton unfortunately lost their captain Gemma Robinson quite early on in the game through illness, but the remaining eight Belles players rolled their sleeves up and got on with playing. Throughout the first half both teams had chances on goal but the goalies from both sides kept their teams in the game by making many great saves, in particular Faith O'Donnel-Stokes played superbly for Brayton displaying her usual calm demeanour when under pressure. However before half time, a 3 v 2 attack on the two Brayton defenders saw Hunmanby score a second goal.

Brayton started the second half brightly passing clever balls between the midfielders Aine Abbott, Shannon Yorke, birthday girl Emily Morton and debutante striker Autumn Freeman. Within ten minutes on form Shannon Yorke gave the Belles a glimmer of hope by performing a gritty run and successfully struck the ball into her opponents net to score her first goal of the season. The Belles continued to pressurise the Hunmanby defence and shortly after the first goal, Yorke passed a fantastic ball into the path of Morton who scored herself a birthday goal to make the score even. The Belles defence Kaitlyn Doncaster, Rachael Grundy and Nicole Husband all kept their cool to clear the ball from their half, meaning that at full time the teams were even leading to extra time.

Belles continued to show resilience and determination to grab a third goal for themselves but unfortunately the visitors managed to beat them to it by scoring instead, Brayton put pressure on their opponents still chasing an equaliser, but without success resulting in the scores after extra time being Brayton 2-3 Hunmanby. The young Belles team were congratulated on the 100% commitment displayed throughout the game and they were unlucky to at least not go to penalties, as they were definitely the better team in the second half. The players of the match were Stokes and Yorke.

6th DECEMBER 08

Brayton Belles U10’s 0-1 Fulford U10’s

The young Belles narrowly missed out in a highly competitive and entertaining game against a very good Fulford side.

The Belles missing many players through illness and injury put together a fine team performance and were unlucky not to gain at least a point. Player of the week Emily Barker was outstanding at the heart of the defence, ably supported by Rachel Keil-Isaac and Nia Major, with Evie Linton working hard in midfield. The two wingers Hannah Collier and Emily Owen worked hard to create chances for Rebecca Risebrow upfront, but the ball just wouldn't fall for the team. With one game to go this year the team can be proud of the progess they have made this season, a fact endorsed by the Fulford coach who was full of praise for the young Belles

29th November 2008

Brayton Belles U12B v Pinefleet Wolfreton

Brayton got off to a shaky start but after 5 mins settled down, playing great football in midfield. Within fifteen minutes Gemma Robinson made a fantastic run and powered a blistering shot into her opponents net. Shortly after Pinefleet made an attack on Braytons goal which was saved and with the loose ball in the goal area Pinefleet managed to trickle in a lucky equalizer to ensure the teams were level at half time.

Belles came into the second half more determined to win with gritty midfield performances from Aine Abbott, Gemma Robinson and Emily Morton. Emily Morton was on fire in the second half gaining possession of the ball and using her notorious run down the wing and threaten the opponents goal a few times without scoring success.

However her determination to score was clearly evident and with selfless play between Robinson and Morton, they carried out a clever one two until Morton fired on target to gain the lead once again. The Belles held strong in the last 15 minutes defending well to make sure they sealed their forth successive victory this season, well done to all the players for a fantastic display of courage, skill, determination and enthusiasm. Player of the match was Emily Morton.

Brayton Belles U12 A 1 – 1 Springhead

A great football match to watch was the verdict of spectators and managers alike. Both these teams know there is no such thing as an easy game in this division and it was the Belles that started with the desire to get back on to winning ways. Belles attacking midfielders of Bromley, Hutton and Huggins wasted no time at all to create chances for Hutton and striker Collier, all but for good Springhead defending or the ball just drifting away from the Belles final would be shot on goal. Springhead had there own similar agenda in which the Belles defenders of Clay and Comerford and Goalkeeping Captain Brown made some lovely defensive challenges. With the introduction of Annabelle Orme and Flo Brown`s pace gave the Belles further chances to find the opening goal. The second half continued in the same manner until a fierce Springhead shot found its way into the Belles net. But it was the Belles girls with more Gel than in Rolando’s hair and team spirit that produced a more than well deserved equalizer from Player of the week Samantha Collier who chased down with Hutton to force a Springhead error into a well taken goal.

22nd NOVEMBER 2008

BELLES U16 v Malet Lambert Belles 3 - 2

The wind played a big part in this match with Brayton pushing forward in the first half and up against it in the second.

Braytons midfield of Birch, Merry, Watts and Parkin dominated the match setting up good chances for Brennan and Hewson only to the thwarted by the Lambert keeper. Braytons dominance paid off half way through the first half after several well taken corners by Richardson a scramble in the goal area saw Brennan lob the ball over the keeper and into the net. Soon afterwards Jess Watts stormed into the area shooting under the diving keeper to give Brayton a deserved 2 - 0 lead.

Brayton played their best football in the first 15 minutes of the second half and eventually Hewson broke through on the right hand side and hammered the ball into the top left hand corner.

The Belles thought they had won the match at this stage however Malet stepped up a gear and pressed Brayton back. A good goal from a free kick and a second from an in swinging corner put Malet right back in the game. Brayton had to dig deep in the last ten minutes to hang on to a 3 - 2 victory.

Brayton Belles U14B 0 v 2 Pinefleet Wolfreton.

Despite the loss the belles can take a lot of positives from their best team performance for some time, against high flying opponents who had averaged nearly 8 goals a game in the league.
On a bitterly cold & windy day, the first half was very evenly contested with both sides probing but creating few chances. The deadlock was finally broken when a long clearance deceived the belles keeper and a Pinefleet forward followed up to scramble the ball into the net. The Belles responded almost immediately with Abbi Gaskell having a shot from the edge of the box parried & then saved by the visiting keeper.
The second half was also very tight, with Pinefleet perhaps just edging the number of chances created, however with a little more composure in front of goal the Belles could easily have got back into the game.
A second goal, from a break midway through the second half, settled the game although the Belles keeper did well to come out & try to block the shot, however it just crept in at the far post.
Overall a good team performance with Player of the Week being awarded to Emma Tune for her outstanding defensive work.

York R.I. 2-0 Brayton Belles u10's

The Belles turned in their best performance of the season against top of the table York R.I. and can count themsevles very unlucky not to take away at least a point.
The Belles took the game to R.I. from the start ,with player of the week Amelia Hall perfoming well on the left wing and Evie Linton working tirelessley on the right hand side of the pitch.
R.I took the lead midway through the first half, but the girls heads never dropped and with Rachel Keil-Isaac working well in midfield, fought back and with more luck could have equailized with efforts from Evie Linton and Rebecca Risebrow.
York R.I. made the score 2-0 just after half time, but Brayton kept attacking and with great dead ball delivery from Amelia Hall ,the York goal led a charmed life but this wasn't to be the Belles day. The Brayton defence stood up well to the challenge ,with Nia Major and Emily Barker performing well and with Emily Owen pushing Amelia close for the player of the week proved a solid defensive unit.
Emily Hindle and Anna Linley provided good support from the bench and all the gilrs can be proud of a great team performance.

15th November 2008

Hornsea Sporting 1 v 1 Brayton Belles U14B

A much better team performance helped the girls to a point at Hornsea.
It could have been all 3, but for the heroics of the home keeper, who not only made some fine saves, but also always seemed to be in the right place as shot after shot went straight into her hands.
The Belles started positively and were camped in their opponents half for long periods of the first half, with the midfield working hard and Katie Todd on the right being particularly effective. The defence was also solid and with Hornsea being limited to trying to attack on the break, the first half ended scoreless.
The second half was a repeat performance but midway through the half, a break from Hornsea ended when they scored with a well struck shot from the edge of the box, which gave keeper Katie Parker no chance.
Undeterred the Belles kept up their attacking efforts and were rewarded when, player of the week, Anya Limbert cut inside and scored with a left foot shot that finally beat the home keeper.

BELLES U16 v Hull City U16 2 - 2

Brayton achieved their best result of the season against top team Hull City in a bruising match.

The Belles started the brightest catching Hull City off guard with some fantastic pass and move play all over the pitch. Brennan, Parkin and Hewson all went close to scoring but were denied by the Hull keeper. On 15 minutes Richardson played a perfect through ball into the path of Parkin who smashed the ball home. City eventually got to grips with the Belles and slotted in an equaliser just before half time.

Brayton again rode Hull City's tough and sometimes over the top tacking. This didn't stop them producing some fine play down the flanks with Thompson, Stainthorpe, Johnson and Lent all combining well. After some sustained pressure Hull shot from distance against the post and a City player ran onto the rebound to push the ball past the flailing Stephenson to give Hull a 2 - 1 lead.

The Belles did not concede defeat and got a much deserved equaliser when Merry passed the ball into the path of Hewson who shot low and hard the Hull keeper dived well and pushed the ball away only to find Johnson running in and blasting the ball into the back of the net.

Both teams could have scored the winner in the later stages but good defending from Birch and Dawson and the Hull defence gave both teams a well earned draw.

Player of the match went to captain Shanice Lent.

Brayton Belles u10's 1-1 Stamford Bridge Scorpions

The Belles got off to a flying start, Amelia Hall scoring from long range within two minutes in her debut game.
The Belles couldn't build on this good start and Stamford Bridge fought there way back into the game, deservedly equalizing with a fine shot from the edge of the area.
The Belles defence of Nia Major in goal, Emily Owen and Emily Barker defended stoutly for the rest of the first half to keep the girls in the game.
The girls regrouped at half time with Rachel Keil-Isaac and Evie Linton sharing the workload in midfield, and Hannah Collier performing well on the wing. The action was end to end but finished in a draw which was a fair result for both teams.

Brayton Belles U12 Yellows 0 -7 Malet Lambert U12

The Belles knew this was going to be a tough match and players would need to put in career best performances to beat this high flying Hull outfit. Malet started, as ever, strong skilful and trying to carve out openings. Captain and Goalkeeper Rhiannon Brown with defenders Jenny Clay and Chelsea Head as always, were up for the challenge and did their upmost to deny any chances. It wasn’t long before Malet got two quick goals using the gaps between midfield and defence wisely. Rosie Hutton and player of the week Imogen Hetherington who put in an outstanding performance battled and charged forward whenever possible but to no avail. Sammie Collier and Grace Priddy chased and pressured up front but still ,few chances came their way. Two further well taken goals came Malets way. Annabel and Flo Brown continued to pressure in midfield and Giorgia Bromley`s final 10 minutes renewed confidence saw Belles have three shots in quick succession. Malet`s counter football gave them another three goals with a trademark Holmes shot to finish with from outside the area. For the Belles lots of positives were taken from this game which can only make them a better team.

8th November 2008

BELLES U16 v Hessle Town 0 - 3

Belles were unable to capitalise on several early chances in this match and eventually paid the price when Hessle smacked in a thunderbolt of a shot giving keeper Stephenson no chance.

In the first 10 minutes both Hewson and Parkin came close to scoring after getting on the end of some great through balls from midfielders Fostant and Merry only to be stopped by the Hessle keeper. Although Brayton were the better team in the first half they went in at half time 1 - 0 down.

The second half saw Hessle push forward scoring a second from a defensive mistake. Brayton then went on the attack changing their formation to three at the back and five across midfield. This spurred the Belles on coming close again to getting a goal back. Birch, Johnson and Brennan all pushed forward in search of a goal. Hessle countered against a strong back three of Lent, Dawson and Thompson and eventually scored a third to put the match out of reach. A fine performance which didn't reflect in the score.

Brayton Belles U14B 1 v 3 Hessle Town Girls.

The Belles lost their unbeaten record with a disappointing home defeat.
Whilst their opponents, who had some very skillful players, played some good football the Belles struggled as a team to get the ball forward and found themselves 2 - 0 down at half time. Despite changes to the formation in the second half they went 3 - 0 down.
There were some fine individual performances, particularly from keeper Katie Parker and the defensive line, Anya Limbert worked hard up front to score the consolation goal, and player of the week Abbi Gaskell was tireless and gave her all.

1st NOVEMBER 2008

Brayton Belles U12 yellow 2
Hornsea Sporting U12 A 2

The Belles had to settle for a draw in a match where they had a lot of possession and created more chances than Hornsea.
Rosie Hutton (Player of the Week) put Brayton ahead in the first five minutes of the game, and the Belles continued to press with Sarah Huggins and Giorgia Bromley working tirelessly in midfield and Grace Priddy showing strength and pace up front.
However Hornsea wasn't going to take it lying down and pressured Braytons defence of Jenny Clay, Chelsea Head and keeper Rhiannon Brown, and were rewarded with two goals in the last ten minutes of the first half.
The second half was dominated by Brayton and superb passing and movement saw Hutton score her second goal of the match. Ellie Comerford and Annabelle Orme also worked very hard for the team.
Brayton came close on many occasions but the winning goal proved too elusive this week.
Another great team performance from the Belles who once again showed, skill, determination and sportsmanship.

Brayton Belles U14A 7 - 2 Leconfield Girls FC U14

Belles captain Jodie Lund rounded off a superb hat trick with an excellent solo run which tore apart the visitors rear-guard.

A brace a piece from Katie Wileman And Jess Bisby completed the scoring as The Belles returned to league action after a four week lay off.
Brayton dominated and looked comfortable throughout the first half and at times looked to be able to score at any time.

As the second half got under way the visitors began to claw their way bag into the game, a ten minute spell of defensive indecision gifted the opposition with two quick fire goals and gave them renewed confidence. Brayton responded by tightening their grip in midfield and settled things down again before they wrapped up the game with an excellent charge which finally finished off the resurgent visitors.

25th October 2008

Brayton Belles U14B 0 Hedon Rangers U14 0

Player of the week, keeper Katie Parker had to put on an outstanding display of courageous interceptions and saves to ensure that Belles maintained their unbeaten run this season. The first half was end to end stuff; Belles had to adjust their formation to defend against some very quick running from the Hedon forwards, although they held their line well, frequently catching the opposition in the offside trap. Belles hoped to make the most of their substitutes in the second half, but Hedon remained strong and fought to the end, keeping Parker on her toes throughout. Overall, Belles should be glad of the point, which will maintain them in a competitive league position.

18th October 2008

BELLES U16 V SCARBOROUGH 4 - 0

Belles U16s triumphed in this 1st round league cup match against Scarborough.

Brayton soon got into their stride peppering the Scarborough goal from all angles only to be denied by some outstanding saves from the Scarborough keeper.

On form striker Josie Hewson opened the scoring on 20 minutes after bursting through the defence and slotting the ball coolly into the bottom corner. A fine ball from Fosten put Hewson through to score an identical goal and put the Belles 2 - 0 up.

Parkin burst through near the end of the first half and was hacked down for a penalty. Katie Merry stepped up to take it but once again a fine save from the keeper kept the score at 2 - 0.

A strong defensive display from Dawson, Birch Thompson and Lent kept the Scarborough attack at bay

Parkin eventually got her name on the score sheet with a power drive which fired under the keeper. The move of the match came late in the game when Lent, Stainthorpe and Richardson passed the ball through the Scarborough midfield into the path of winger Lottie Johnson who made a perfect cross to Parkin who side footed the ball home to give the Belles a 4 - 0 victory.

Brayton Belles u10 2-1 Stamford Bridge

The Belles were put under early pressure and it was no suprise when Stamford Bridge scored midway through the first half with a rocket of a shot from outside the area. But the Belles took this as their cue to start attacking and grew in confidence, with Rebecca Risebrow equalising just before half time after a fine team move. At this stage the Belles can thank their defence for keeping them in the game ,with Nia Major,Emily Owen and player of the week Emily Barker having fine games at the back for Brayton.
The second half started with the Belles on the attack and this was rewarded when Rebecca Risebrow was tripped and a penalty awarded, Francesca Bettison blasting the penalty home to put the girls 2-1 up. With Rachel Keil-Isaac now controlling the midfield, supported by Hannah Collier, Evie Linton and Emily Hindle and Kimberley Burton playing well from the bench, the girls easily held on for a deserved victory.

Brayton Belles U14B 3 - 1 AFC Tickton

Brayton maintained their good start to the season with a third straight win.
Against a physically bigger, but understrength team, the Belles appeared hesitant and had to survive early scares, with keeper Katie Parker keeping them in the game with some fine saves. Gradually getting back in the game, and starting to create chances Anya Limbert hit the bar, before the pressure finally told and Katie Todd fired home from 12 yards.
The second half opened with Tickton equalising following a move through the middle to score a good goal. The Belles regrouped and pushed forward for Katie Todd to score her second goal, with a fine shot into the bottom corner. Tickton never gave up and battled hard, but Sophie Hudson finished off the scoring when she showed good skill to control a bouncing cross from the right and loop a shot over the keeper.
Captain Ashley Rowe was awarded player of the week for a solid all round performance.

Hedon Rangers U12 1
Brayton Belles U12 yellow 0

The Belles were knocked out of the East Riding league cup in this highly competitive match.
Brayton thoroughly deserved something from this game in which 9 out of the 10 players qualify to play U11's, however they lost out by a single goal in the last five minutes of play.
Both teams were on top form and it always looked like the one goal would settle it.
Player of the week Chelsea Head was outstanding in defence alongside Jenny Clay and keeper Rhiannon Brown.
Midfielders Imogen Hetherington, Sarah Huggins and Rosie Hutton worked hard to get the ball to Grace Priddy up front, who was constantly battling to get past the Hedon defence.
Giorgia Bromley, Sammie Collier and Ellie Comerford also created chances and made some good runs.
All in all it was another good display from an improving team with everyone contributing to a real team effort.

11th October 2008

Scotton 1-1 Brayton Belles u10's

The young Belles started the match playing up a serve slope, but battled well to keep the score at 0-0 until just before half time, when player of the week, keeper Nia Major, was beaten by a cruel deflection. Credit must go to Emily Barker and Rachel Keil-Isaac, both having outstanding games as centre halves.
In the second half, with the aid of the slope, the Belles took the game to Scotton and it was no surprise when Rebecca Risebrow equalized with a fine goal, running from her own half beating two players and scoring with a cool finish into the bottom corner.
The Belles kept the pressure up through the second half, with Francesca Bettison controlling the midfield and Emily Owen and Hannah Collier having fine games on the wings.
Emily Hindle,Evie Linton and Grace Moring provided great support from the bench, but try as they might the girls couldn't get the crucial second goal and had to settle for a point.

Brayton Belles U12 yellow 1
Hedon Rangers 2

The young Belles put in a great performance and continued to improve in both skills and confidence, despite the scoreline.
Hedon opened strongly but keeper Rhiannon Brown and defenders Jenny Clay and Chelsea Head held off the attacks and the first half finished 0-0.
In the second half both sides had chances but it was Hedon who was first to score. Undeterred the Belles dug deep and the result was the goal of the game that started with a pass from Chelsea Head and ended with an unstoppable shot from midfielder, and player of the week Ellie Comerford.
A draw would have been the right result for the two committed teams but Hedon was lucky to slot another one home to edge ahead in the last ten minutes. Despite Brayton's best efforts they just couldn't manage to pull one back.
Excellent displays also from Sammie Collier, Imogen Hetherington, Sarah Huggins, Rosie Hutton, Grace Priddy and Annabelle Orme making her debut for the Belles.
The Brayton players showed 100% commitment and spirit once again, well done girls.

4th October 2008

No match reports will appear this week in respect of Don Cook who died on Tuesday 30th September in a tragic accident at Kellingley Colliery

27th September 2008

Hedon Rangers U14 3 v 5 Brayton Belles U14A

Two goals from midfield powerhouse Katie Wileman and a goal each from Jess Bisby, Jodie Lund and Izzy Forth with virtually the last kick of the game was enough to finally close the door on the opposition. Both teams battled hard for possession throughout the match and for the second game in a row The Belles had to come from behind .With the wind in their sails Brayton got their noses in front but the home side had other ideas as they kept pegging Brayton back.
In the second half The Belles continued to play some outstanding football and their determination and all round performance prevailed and it was Brayton who finally came out on top and claimed the points.
Player of the week was awarded to Jade Roche for her commanding performance in defence,

Castleford 0 Brayton Belles OA 5

Brayton Belles OA team winning streak continued on their travels to Castleford White Rose on 28th Sep 08. The opening goal came from Jenna Rodgers after 10 minutes when Nikki Copeland passed a clever ball to exploit the pace of Meganne Summers on the wing, who crossed decently into the box for Jenna to score. The Belles continued to play well passing the ball between the team and Emma Knowles worked hard to slot a first half hat trick away, which was a great way to end her weekend birthday celebrations. In the second half the Belles were not as organised and made work harder for themselves, despte this there was never any real threat on their goal and Jenna Rogers from Belles managed to score a further goal, the full time score saw the Belles winning 0 -5.

Victoria Dock 0 Brayton Belles U14B 4

Belles could not have wished for a better start to what is for most of them their first season of 11 a side football. The home team held out for the first half with no score at half time, but Belles capitalised in the second half, making full use of the available substitutes. The first goal came from a goal mouth scramble, won by Chloe Parkin. Belles then found new confidence, pushing forward relentlessly, with their second coming from winger Sophie Hudson. Then on a roll, Anya Limbert returned to the fray and bagged a fine brace of goals in the last 10 minutes. A performance the whole team should be proud of, particularly player of the week Danielle Brown.

South Cave 7 Belles U12 Green 0

Brayton Belles under 12 Green team battled against an experienced South Cave side. All of the Belles showed lots of skill, effort and determination with great defending from Katlin and Nicol . Aine in midfield with Shannon and Emily on the wings and Emily striking were unluckly not to score. The Belles replacement Goalie Gemma saved many attemps but unfortunately the score ended at 7 – 0 to South Cave. The Belles played brilliant – all of the team were awarded players of the match - well done!

Cottingham 16 Belles Yellow 1

Although the score of Cottingham 16 - Brayton Belles 1 does not look impressive, you had to witness the game to understand my praising the Belles.
From NINE players, five of them suffering colds & Ear infections, medication & lack of sleep, it was apparent that Brayton would be under the cosh. At half time we were losing 5 (Cottingham) 1 (Brayton) despite a gutsy show of heart over fitness.
Because of sickness, altering players usual positional play was necessary to combat energy drain. However, the opposition being older, larger, & with multiple substitutions, they gradually wore out the Brayton legs along with some first class Football, which took its toll on the belles.

Rhiannon Brown(The CAT) excelled in Goal under immense pressure despite illness, which helped to keep the spirits raised. Rosie Hutton scored the goal mid first half but the belles were unable to capitalise despite several attempts.

Congratulations must go to the defence & midfield for valiant efforts against positive tackling & rehearsed passing plays, whilst at the same time, congratulate to the forwards for their perseverance in chasing from midfield to the oppositions goal line multiple times.

I asked for full commitment & was not let down in the slightest, thank you Team.

Fulford 3-0 Brayton Belles

Fulford made a flying start quickly putting the young Belles on the back foot, and establishing a 3 nil lead by the mid way point of the first half. At this time it looked likely that the inexperienced Belles side would completely fold, but they slowly gained a foothold in the game, and with Rachel Keil Isaac marshalling the defence with Emily Barker, and Nia Major making some splendid saves in goal, by half time the Belles were taking the game to Fulford.
In the second half the Belles continued to gain in self belief, and with Hannah Collier making many surging runs down the wing, created chances for Evie Linton, Rebecca Risebrow and Francesca Bettison. With more luck in front of goal the Belles could have got back in to the game. With Kimberley Burton, Emily Owen and Emily Hindle making her debut from the bench, making telling contributions in the second half, the young Belles can be proud of their performance and the omens look good for the rest of the season.

AFC Preston v Belles U16 4 - 1

The Belles U16 team fought well in this tough U16 match against last years runners up and despite the score with a bit more luck in front of goal could have won.

Straight from the kick off Brayton had their best chance when Jossie Hewson flashed pasted the sleepy Preston defence only to hit her shot against the on coming keeper. Preston pushed forward after this testing the Belles defence and eventually breaking them twice to go 2 - 0 up. Belles keeper Rachael Huggins kept the score down with some fantastic saves. Just before half time Laura Richardson smashed a long range free kick into the top corner of the Preston net to put them back in the match. However two more Preston goals either side of half time put the game beyond Brayton.

Parker, Brennan and Johnson had good chances in front of goal and the Belles highlight of the match was the performance of Megan Birch who played one of her best matches as central defender along side Dawson, Thompson and Stainthorpe.

20th September 2008

Brayton Belles U16 v Pinefleet 4 – 4

HEWSON BAGS FOUR IN DRAMATIC OPENER

An entertaining first game of the season which either team could have won saw Josie Hewson score all four of the Belles goals.

The Belles dominated the first 20 minutes only to see Pinefleet break away and slot the ball past the diving Huggins and find themselves 1 – 0 down. Brayton continued to push forward eventually getting their reward when Hewson smashed into the top corner. Just before half time the Belles again got sucker punched and went in 2 - 1 down.

Brayton changed into a more attacking formation in the second half with Hewson joining Parkin up front and they soon equalised when Brennan slotted the ball through to speed machine Hewson who again slammed the ball home. A five minute spell of excellent passing from Brayton followed with Richardson and then Lent setting up Hewson for her third and forth goals to put Brayton 4 - 2 up and in command of the match. Katie Merry completely out classed Pinefleets best player throughout the game.

However the final ten minutes saw Pinefleet dominate for the first time and two poorly defended corners allowed Pinefleet to equalise. Either team could have snatched victory in the dying minutes but a well earned draw was a good result for both teams.

Player of the match – Keeper Rachael Huggins

Brayton Belles u10's 3-3 Poppleton u10's

An inexperienced Belles side, with 9 of the 11 strong squad making their debuts, drew a highly entertaining game 3 all with Poppleton.
Brayton had the best of the first half, with Rebecca Risebrow scoring after 30 seconds and following up with her second before half time.
The defence of Nia Major in goal, Rachael Keil-Isaac and Emily Barker deserve credit for been so resolute in the first half.
To their credit, Poppleton came out strongly in the second half and deservedly pulled a goal back, but when player of the week Francesca Bettison scored the Belles third goal, backed up by good wing play by Hannah Collier and Evie Linton, it seemed the Belles would go on to win, but Poppleton never gave up and through a penalty and goal in the last seconds, earned a draw.
Special mentions to Isobel Bromley, Grace Moring, Kimberley Burton and Anna Linley, all making their debuts.

Costello U12's 1-3 Brayton Belles U12 Yellow

The Northern Rail sponsored Belles Yellow have arrived in the U12 East Riding Girls Division 1 with a fantastic team effort to beat a more than capable Costello side. Belles vice captain Rosie Hutton's trademark snaking forceful runs ending with the ball in the back of the net shocked a good playing opposition into raising their game. However, it was The Belles captain/Goalkeeper Rhiannon Brown and defenders Jenny Clay, Imogen Hetherington and Chelsea Head who took The Belles into a performance level not achieved before as the Costello attacks started but each time to no avail. The attacking midfielder's of Ellie Comerford, Sarah Huggins and player of the week Giorgia Bromley played and pressured to allow Hutton to escape onto goal only to be fouled for a penalty. With Hutton injured striker Grace Priddy duly came forth and smashed the ball into the top corner of the net. With The Belles still counter attacking Costello's efforts it was the turn of striker Sammie Collier to turn the heat up on Costello's defence. The reintroduction of Hutton saw her first touch take her straight into the penalty area to score her second goal. The second half was full of pulsating end to end attacks and with three minutes left Costello scored a deserved goal. This didn't take the shine of a great team effort for the girls.

Flamborough Hawks U14’s 4 v 7 Brayton Belles U14’s A

The first game of the season saw The Belles have a lengthy trip to the East Coast. Brayton suffered an early set back after going one down within two minutes of the kick off. The Belles quickly bounced back when Belles captain Jodie Lund levelled the match within five minutes with a splendid shot from close range. Izzy Forth added a second to put The Belles in front for the first time. Lund then doubled her tally to extend the lead before the home side pulled one back just before half time. As the second half got underway Brayton continued to play some attractive football creating numerous attacks on the Flamborough goal mouth. Goal of the game came from central defender Jade Roche who spotted The Hawks keeper some way off her line and let rip with a stunner from a full twenty five yards out which dipped under the bar and into the back of the net to make it four two. Second half sub Evie Smythe nipped in from a tight angle to extend the lead further, but unfortunately confusion in The Belles defence helped The Hawks to claw a couple more goals back before Jess Bisby and Kate Wileman finally finished off the opposition with their close range efforts which found the back of the net to seal the victory. An all-round team performance by The Belles and a much deserved win which should stand them in good shape for the long hard season ahead.

Brayton Belles Open Age 3 v 6 Bradford Park Avenue

Brayton Belles who were automatically promoted to West Riding league
division one opened their 08/09 campaign on 14th September 08 at home to
Bradford Park Avenue. Rainy conditions during the week meant that the game
had to be played at Hambleton, many thanks to Hambleton for the use of
their playing facilities.

The first ten minutes were shaky for the Belles with two goals being scored
by Bradford Park Avenue but the Belles settled down and started winning the
ball back and keeping possession. Rosie Akroyd and Jess Dunn worked hard on
the wings collecting the ball in their own half , running into their
opponents half and the entire team ensured possession was kept by passing
the ball between them. Throughout the first half the Belles were the better
side and their hard work paid off when Leah Rodgers struck a brilliant
corner kick, which was comfortably placed in the back of their opponents
net by striker Emma Knowles, to ensure the Belles clawed back a goal before
half time.

The Belles got off to a better start in the second half when pressure
forced a mistake in the Bradford Park Avenue goal mouth and one of their
defenders scored an own goal, the Belles took advantage of this situation
whilst Braford Park Avenues heads were down and scored a superb goal from
Jenna Rodgers from a header to make it 3-2.

Brayton continued to have much of the possession but started to tire and it
wasn't long before Bradford Park Avenue equalised. The strikers and
midfielders for Bradford Park Avenue were relentless and continued to
breach the Brayton Belles defence to ensure a victory for themselves in the
last twenty minutes by scoring a further 3 goals to make it 3-6 at the full
time whistle. The final score did not reflect the game as the Belles had
created some fantastic opportunities which were not all put away, but they
all worked really hard and were extremely unfortunate to have not taken
some points away from the game, this week the Belles will travel to Shipley
to play Salts. Good luck Belles and thank you to Danni for agreeing to be
goalie, Glyn Cardall for refereeing and Graham at the Grey Horse pub in
Brayton for providing hospitality.

Salt Ladies v Belles Open age 2 - 3

Brayton Belles travelled to Salts FC on Sunday 21st September looking for their first win of the season after the unfortunate defeat the week before.

The Belles opened the scoring after just 10 mins with a clever run down the wing from Jess Dunn and a comfortable strike on goal to beat the Salts keeper. Despite no other attempts on goal Salts got lucky to score from a corner, which meant that the teams were level at 1 – 1 at half time.

Danni Thompson Belles goalie made several good saves in the beginning on the 2nd half, however Salts managed to go strike on goal which took a deflection from a defender and went in goal. Brayton battled away all over the park and their hard work paid off when Jenna Rogers scored a superb goal. The Belles held a good defensive line and continued to win balls in midfield and on the wings, which resulted in them sneaking a late winning goal with Emma Knowles scoring, the final whistle was 2 – 3.

Brayton Belles player of the match was awarded to Jenna Rogers for the hard work she displayed through out the game.

Brayton Belles would like to thank Graham at the Grey Horse in Brayton for his continued support by running a raffle to raise funds for the team, thanks also to Graham, Belles supporters and Greencore for supplying the prizes for the raffle – all proceeds will go to Brayton Belles FC.
